SATURN to Present Innovative Recovery Process for Non-Ferrous Metals

19 April 2012 - Aachen (Germany)

The SATURN project on the recovery of non-ferrous metals is pleased to announce its final workshop to take place on 19th April 2012 in Aachen.

SATURN is a three year innovation research project designed to demonstrate the enhanced recovery of non-ferrous metals from waste, using advanced sensor sorting technology. Current separation methods rely mostly on manual sorting taking place outside of Europe, resulting in the loss of valuable resources. SATURN is the first project of its kind in Europe, and its findings can significantly increase innovation and business growth opportunities in the metal recovery industries.

SATURN’s full scale demonstration has produced high-purity products (aluminium products with >95% purity), achieving very high yields. Further results have shown significant carbon savings of up to four times when compared with mining the virgin equivalent, and modular plant design demonstrated from 8000 t/a to 25,000 t/a.
