In Brazil, setting up a public-private partnership has solved the problem of pollution deriving from the improper disposal of cooking oil, instead finding a way for it to be collected and recycled. By raising awareness and creating an infrastructure for oil collection, the Eco-Oil programme has transformed the habits of local businesses and society and contributed to waste reduction, with over 20,000 litres of cooking oil collected each month and sold to a local biodiesel power plant. 

The first Repair Café, set up in 2009, aimed at promoting sustainable practices by raising awareness about reuse and repair. It provided a free space for citizens to try and fix their broken products, with the help from expert volunteers. This waste reduction initiative has since been replicated all over the world, resulting in a global network of Repair Cafés. 

GreenEcoNet is promoting sustainable practices by connecting SMEs and the research community, thus facilitating faster transition to a green economy. Raising awareness, disseminating results as well as the uptake of green business practices across Europe are its main foci; its platform is the instrument for it. 

Tzu Chi Foundation, established in 1966 in Taiwan, contributes with over one million members to social services, environmental protection, medical care, education and humanism around the world. With the efforts of 5,463 recycling stations together with 80,000 volunteers in Taiwan, its goal is to reduce the use of resources.

DA.AI (Great Love) Gray Eco Blankets are made from recycled PET bottles collected by 80,000 volunteers in the rubbish recycling stations of Tzu Chi Foundation throughout Taiwan. All the bottles are turned into synthetic fibres to make blankets and clothing with the aim of distributing to relief operations worldwide.

The annual disposal fee necessary for waste management in Taiwan is roughly 95 million Euro. To decrease these costs and solve the related environmental problem, the Taipei City Government has adopted a "Trash Per-bag Fee Collection Policy" in July 2000, targeting strong waste reduction through the charging of trash collection fees per volume of waste.

The ‘Green agricultural and island communities – new development model’ programme (“ΡΑΣΙΝΕΣ ΑΓΡΟΤΙΚΕΣ ΚΑΙ ΝΗΣΙΩΤΙΚΕΣ "ΚΟΙΝΟΤΗΤΕΣ": ΝΕΟ ΠΡΟΤΥΠΟ ΑΝΑΠΤΥΞΗΣ”) provides support to municipalities. The €50 million programme promotes renewable energy systems and energy efficiency measures in Greek remote and island areas with fewer than 1000 inhabitants. The first call for applications was launched end of 2012, the projects are running between 2013-2015.

The South Korean government has established a comprehensive and successful policy mix aiming at food waste treatment and recovery. The objective is to change the food culture by reducing waste and recycling.

ECO-INNOVERA is a European network of 25 partners addressing a wide range of eco-innovation topics from research to dissemination. Applying the concept of systemic eco-innovation, ECO-INNOVERA focuses on promoting sustainable practices in order to boost the implementation of eco-innovation in Europe.

SusChem, the European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry, is a forum that aims at promoting the sector of European chemical and biochemical innovation. Through substitution, damage reducing techniques or other forms of eco-manufacturing, sustainable chemistry can help meet the  needs of modern society. 

The European Water Partnership (EWP) aims at raising awareness on water usage by promoting its Water Vision for Europe.[1] The partnership is promoting the sector by initiating, supporting and enhancing the initiatives and projects of different stakeholders in order to facilitate a general mindset change and to achieve sustainable water resource management.

The White Lobster agency, has launched a Green Product Award which aims to achieve comprehensive knowledge transfer by supporting eco design and manufacturing in a very broad sense. High quality, innovative and sustainably designed products awarded the Green Product status benefit from a strong marketing impetus. 

Motiva Group is an expert company owned by the Finnish state promoting efficient and sustainable use of energy and materials. It offers energy auditing and counselling on energy efficiency agreements, material efficiency, renewable energy and international cooperation for various stakeholders such as industry and SMEs, the public sector, schools and private households.

The Green Suppliers Network aims to minimise carbon footprints by reducing energy consumption, increasing productivity, and driving innovation. Its members, who are large manufacturers from across the value chain, benefit from customised, hands-on assessments of production processes to develop their business in a more sustainable way.

The Netherlands has recently introduced ‘Circle Economy’, an open member platform striving towards a circular economy and providing targeted support to organisations. The non-for-profit platform is also involved in a new cooperative programme initiated by the Dutch Government, opting for a “Realisation of Acceleration towards a Circular Economy (RACE)”. 

Zero Waste Scotland is an organisation funded by the Scottish Government to deliver its Zero Waste Plan, which is based on the principles of resource efficiency and circular economy. Besides its core activities of providing funding and training, Zero Waste Scotland is active in communication and engagement of various stakeholders and offers a range of online tools, templates and apps.

The Zero Waste International Alliance (ZWIA) is a group of environmental professionals dedicated to working towards a world without waste through public education and practical application of Zero Waste principles. By disseminating knowledge and providing support to its members ZWIA is promoting the implementation of Zero Waste Principles in various aspects.

The European Association of Mining Industries, Metal Ores & Industrial Minerals (Euromines) represents the European metals and minerals mining industry and aims at promoting it. Its activities goals are  support to the innovation competences of firms and improving regulation and standards in order to meet sustainability criteria economically as well as ecologically. 

The RETech Partnership is an independent network of mainly German companies and institutions in the waste management and recycling sector. The objective of the Partnership is to set up a portal for export-oriented recycling and waste companies. Its aims at promoting the sector of clean-tech, fostering worldwide technology transfer, providing access to German expertise and creating new market opportunities for German firms. 

SymbioCity is the trademarked term for Sweden's approach to sustainable urban development. The overall aim of the SymbioCityApproach is to promote Sweden's knowledge and experience on sustainable urban development internationally – and encourage these developments primarily in low and middle-income countries.
